Families must read and agree to the terms and conditions prior to signing up for the program.
Instrumental Music Program Terms and Conditions
All efforts will be made to fit students into their preferred instrument and lesson type and The Instrumental Music Coordinator will offer alternatives as required.
General Conditions
- A minimum of 32 lessons will be offered per academic year.
- As the student becomes more proficient they will be asked to participate in appropriate school ensembles.
- Students who choose selective music subjects in Year 9 and above are strongly recommended to have private lessons on their instrument of choice.
- Students are required to have access to their own instrument at home, or access instruments at school. They are required to be practising the material given to them by their teacher between lessons.
- ALDI, Ebay and Amazon are not good options for instrument purchases. The College can guide families to the best local retailers and other purchasing options.
- It is strongly recommended that students do NOT bring their own instrument to school and instead access the school instruments for their lessons. The College accepts no responsibility for instruments brought to school that are lost or stolen.
- Students involved in instrumental music lessons miss a different timetabled class each week. It is the student’s responsibility to keep up to date with any missed classwork. Failure to do so may result in lessons being discontinued.
- If students do not adhere to these Terms and Conditions, or music fees are not paid by due dates, lessons will be discontinued.
Missed Lessons
- Repeated missed lessons may result in lessons being discontinued.
- Lessons missed due to school-arranged excursions or activities will be rescheduled.
- Every effort will be made to teach the 32 lessons for the year, however this requires regular communication from families and students with the music staff. For example, if a student is unwell and no communication is received from either the guardian or the student prior to the absence, the lesson will be forfeit for that week and count as one of the 32 lessons for the year.
- Lessons missed due to voluntary withdrawal from the School or from The Instrumental Music Program will not be refunded.
- In the case of a prolonged absence from school (holidays etc), special arrangements may be made with the Instrumental Music Coordinator to arrange make-up lessons if possible.
Fees
- The fees for Instrumental Music are as follows:
- 25 minute solo lessons*: $500 per year
- 25 minute group lessons (maximum of 3 students): $400 per year
- 50 minute solo lessons (recommended for VCE music students): $600 per year
- *Please note group lessons are unavailable for piano students. They will automatically be allocated to 25 minute solo lessons, or 50 minute solo lessons based on their choice.
- Fees must be paid by the agreed due date on Compass, with payment plans available by arrangement with the front office only.
- A “cooling off period” applies for Term 1. After such time full fees are payable for the remainder of the year without exception.
- In addition to the semester-based fees and instruments, families will be asked to purchase their own necessary resources such as drumsticks, guitar picks and method books.
- Instrumental Music Fees are reviewed annually and may be increased modestly at the start of each school year.
- If lessons are to be discontinued by the student, guardians must give notice either via a phone call or email to the Instrumental Music Coordinator.
Failure to adhere to these terms and conditions consistently will result in lessons being discontinued.
