Instrumental Music Program

Edgars Creek Secondary College is proud to offer students the opportunity to enrol in our Instrumental Music Program. This program is supported by a robust classroom music curriculum, dedicated music teaching staff, state-of-the-art equipment and a strong music community growing within The College.

Expert tuition is currently offered on the Flute, Trombone, Trumpet, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Electric Bass Guitar, Drum Kit, Voice and Piano.

Get Involved with Instrumental Music at Edgars Creek Secondary College

Families must read and agree to the terms and conditions prior to signing up for the program. Students can select their desired instrument and participate in small group instructional lessons.

Instrumental Music Program Terms and Conditions

All efforts will be made to fit students into lesson preferences indicated above, but this will depend on demand. The Instrumental Music Coordinator will advise if the desired lesson type and/or instrument preference is not available and offer an alternative.

  • A total of 14 lessons will be taught per semester
  • Regular communication between the Instrumental Music Teacher and the student is required. Students who regularly forget or miss their lessons without communication with the Instrumental Music Teacher or Instrumental Music Coordinator will forfeit their music lesson for that week. Repeated missed lessons may result in lessons being discontinued.
  • As the student becomes more proficient they may be required to participate in appropriate school ensembles.
  • Students who choose selective music subjects in Year 9 and above are strongly recommended to have private lessons on their instrument of choice.  
  • Students are strongly encouraged to have access to an instrument at home and be practising between lessons. ALDI and Amazon are not good options. The College can guide families to the best local retailers and other purchasing options. 
  • It is strongly recommended that students do NOT bring their own instrument to school and instead access the school instruments for their lessons. The College accepts no responsibility for instruments brought to school that are lost or stolen.
  • Students involved in instrumental music lessons miss a different timetabled class each week. It is the student’s responsibility to keep up to date with any missed classwork. Failure to do so may result in lessons being discontinued.

  • If the student does not adhere to these Terms and Conditions, or music fees are not paid by due dates, lessons may be discontinued at the discretion of the Instrumental Music Coordinator.

Missed Lessons

  • Lessons missed due to school-arranged excursions or activities will be rescheduled at the discretion of The Instrumental Music Teacher. 14 lessons are to be taught per semester.
  • Lessons missed due to voluntary withdrawal from the School or from The Instrumental Music Program will still be charged.
  • In the case of prolonged illness or other absences, special arrangements should be made with the Instrumental Music Coordinator to arrange make-up lessons if possible.  
  • The Instrumental Music Coordinator will notify parents if their child has missed two consecutive lessons for unexplained reasons. Repeated missed lessons may result in lessons being discontinued.

Fees

  • The fee for Instrumental Music Lessons is $60 per Semester, charged via Compass at the beginning of Term 1 and Term 3.
  • Fees must be paid by the advised due date.
  • Pro-rata adjustments may be arranged if a student commences tuition in the middle of a semester. 
  • Music fees are non-refundable for unused lessons. 
  • Credited lessons are always at the discretion of the Instrumental Music Coordinator.
  • In addition to the semester-based fees and instruments, students may be asked to purchase their own necessary resources such as drumsticks, guitar picks and method books. 
  • Instrumental Music Fees are reviewed annually and may be increased at the start of each school year.

Termination of Lessons

If lessons are to be discontinued by the student, the parent must give written notice via email to the Instrumental Music Coordinator; otherwise, an additional semester’s fees will be payable.
