Graduate and Early Career Teachers Initiative

Edgars Creek Secondary College has a comprehensive program for supporting graduate and early career teachers as they embark on their new journey with us.

Mentor and Buddy Program

Every one of our graduate and early career teachers (defined as being in their first five years of teaching) is provided a mentor/buddy to support them as they settle into the profession and the College. Where necessary, they also mentor teachers through their VIT Application for Full Registration.

Coaching Opportunities

All teachers at the College have access to regular coaching and peer observation opportunities from trained and experienced leadership around areas including behaviour management, lesson delivery and differentiation.

Access to Industry Experts

Edgars Creek Secondary College has established partnerships with industry experts in curriculum, lesson delivery, assessment and behaviour management, including in the School Wide Positive Behaviour (SWPB) framework.

Reduced Teaching Time

Recognising that the early stages of a teacher’s career require more time to focus on developing curriculum and honing their own skills, Edgars Creek Secondary College has a lower face-to-face teaching maximum when compared to other schools.

Dedicated Leadership Support

Edgars Creek Secondary College has a specially-dedicated Learning Specialist – Building Teacher Capacity to support graduate and early career teachers at the College.

Be Part of a Large, Supportive Team

As a part of our growing team, graduates and early career teachers benefit from the support and expertise of a large team of colleagues with varied work and life experiences.
