Careers & Pathways

At Edgars Creek Secondary College, we have a holistic, school-wide approach to Careers & Pathways, designed to guide and support students throughout all stages of their individual career development. Careers & Pathways aims to not only to support students in their transition from secondary education, but to provide them with the tools and the confidence to effectively manage their career throughout their life.

Careers & Pathways offers a variety of programs and opportunities that support students in their individual pathways, including:

  • Classroom activities
  • Workshops
  • Excursions
  • Guest speakers
  • Work experiences
  • My Career Insights/Morrisby
  • Real Industry Job Interviews
  • School Based Apprenticeships/Traineeships
  • Individual Career Action Plans
  • Individual career counselling services

In aide of a successful transition from their secondary schooling, our Year 12 students receive additional, targeted support as they navigate their next steps.

VTAC/Employment Pathway Counselling

All Year 12 students are invited to 1-on-1 career counselling interviews to assist them through the tertiary application and employment pathway process. This includes Scholarship and Special Entry Access Scheme applications as well as course and employment applications.

Change of Preference

Once VCE results are published, students have no more than 54 hours to finalise their tertiary applications. While extensive work is done with students before their results are released to ensure their applications are comprehensive, Careers & Pathways are exclusively available to Year 12 students during this period to assist with any application amendments that need to be made. Students’ VCE certificates are also available for collection from Careers & Pathways during this period.

VTAC Tertiary Offer Rounds

It is vital that students understand how to accept, defer, decline or submit a change of preference when they receive their offers. During each offer round and subsequent change of preference period, Careers & Pathways will contact each student to confirm their offer and provide support and advice, ensuring a smooth transition into their tertiary pathway.
